Ginger Bee Fibro Project
A project dedicated to producing a beautiful fibromelanotic chicken with dual-purpose value and good egg color. Fibromelanosis presents in chickens as black pigment found throughout the bird’s body, including the skin and muscle tissue. These chickens are a combination of aesthetic flair and good personality… plus, we just love black chickens.
So, who’s in the coop?
Light brown / tan eggs
Black Diamonds are a personal favorite of ours when it comes to fibros. They have strongly pigmented black skin and (squee!!) extra toes because of their Silkie heritage. Black Diamonds are nice and chunky without being overly large, and they have non-confrontational and sedate temperaments. They provide the majority of our Fibro project genetics.
Tan / tinted / blue / green eggs
We're working toward introducing exciting egg color into our Fibro project, along with variety in feather color and appearance. These traits come from other breeds, like the Mosaic, and the hard work of others in their dedicated Fibro projects. We're lucky enough to have both from Open Gate Farm in Westport, MA.
